The 2012 Bohemian Ball

About

Biography

Mezzo-soprano Elspeth Davisgraduated with a Masters of Music from the Peabody Institute, where she was a Peabody Merit Scholarship recipient. After graduation, she returned to the school as a guest artist in the role of Nicklausse/La Muse in Les Contes d' Hoffmann. She was a member of the Harbor Opera Company, for which she has sung the roles of The Announcer in Gallantry, Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti, and The Faithful Seductress in the new chamber opera Ophelia Forever. Favorite engagements include Béatrice in Béatrice et Bénédict by Hector Berlioz, an artist-in-residency with The Canton Symphony in Ohio, Praskowia/Clo-Clo in The Merry Widow, Nancy (cover) in Martha, both for The Liederkranz Opera Theatre, and Le Prince Charmant in Cendrillon. Upcoming 2011 - 2012 engagements include Benjamin Britten’'s cantata Phaedra and Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw, both with Opera Moderne, as well as featured soloist for the inaugural Bohemian Ball, hosted by the Austrian Cultural Forum and the Czech Center of New York. Recent engagements included Eleonora in Wolf-Ferrari’'s Le Donne Curiose, Sesto in Giulio Cesare at The Peoples Kitchen with Opera Manhattan, CPE Bach's Auferstehung und Himmelfahrt Jesu with Conflitti di Voci and The Grand Tour Orchestra, Giovanna Seymour in Anna Bolena and Olga in Eugene Onegin with Opera Manhattan, and The Hugo Wolf/Goethe Project, an original work that recounts the tale of two couples, bound together by their nomadic professions and love for each other, as they all reach critical points in their relationships all through the text of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the music of Hugo Wolf, for The Anyone But Shakespeare Theater Festival.No stranger to the stage, her other roles include Papagena, Suor Genovieffa, Cookie (in Milton Granger's Talk Opera), Percy Talbot (in The Spitfire Grill, for which she received an Irene Ryan nomination), Gianetta in the Opera festival di Roma's production of L'Elisir d'Amore, The Fairy Queen (Iolanthe), Virginella (La Perichole), Dame Carruthers (Yeomen of the Guard), Nettie Fowler (Carousel), Mme. Matroppo (Very Good Eddie), and The Witch (Into the Woods). As an actor Ms. Davis has appeared as Mariane (Tartuffe), Dunyasha (The Cherry Orchard), Olivia (Twelfth Night), Billie (Haiku), and The Girl in Veronica's Room.
